The Light Exhibition at Neot Kedumim Park

The Light Exhibition at Neot Kedumim Park

Exhibit of oils and wicks mentioned in the Talmud

The exhibit is displayed around Chanukkah time.

In ancient times, lamp light was a sign of life in a home. Today’s electric lights have replaced numerous varieties of vessels, wicks, and oils that were used in various regions in accord with the population’s financial means.

This exhibit contains many of the oils, wicks and vessels mentioned in the Mishna and Talmud. Some of the plants used to produce the oils and wicks grow in Neot Kedumim and can be seen along the trails.

This exhibit is based on the research of Dr. Avivit Schweiki, and Prof.  Zohar Amar, Bar Ilan University.

*The exhibit is displayed around Chanukkah time.
