All of Us are Mighty Light” – English Hannukah tour

Sunday-Thursday 10th-14nd December (27 Kislev – 2 Tevet)

Neot Kedumim, the Biblical Landscape Reserve, is located in the heart of the Modi’in area – the homeland of the Maccabees, where the story of Hannukah started.

During Chanukka, guided tours for the whole family will be provided. We will hear the stories about the Maccabees and the miracle of the cruse of oil and enjoy unique activities and fascinating tours for the whole family.

During the tour, we will go through a variety of activities that tell the story of the Maccabees’ way of life: why they put so much effort to produce olive oil and what were its various uses, what other oils were used for the household lamps, and where the best olive oil used in the Temple lamp came from.

What was life like during the time of the Maccabees? What did they do without electricity once darkness fell?

Come and join the celebrations at Neot Kedumim Park in honor of Hannukah.

Activities include:

  • Entrance to a dark cave – we will hear fascinating stories about the heroism of the Maccabees.
  • Writing messages in ancient Hebrew script on pottery using ink and quills.
  • A trip to the fresh olive vineyards and a visit to an ancient olive press.
  • Minting a victory coin like the one minted by the Maccabees.
  • A creative workshop and unique oil lamps making.

From darkness to light – Hannukah lantern tours 

Sunday-Thursday 10th-14nd December (27 Kislev – 2 Tevet)

Hours:

Tour departs at 16:00 (it is not possible to join in the middle) – in Hebrew or English.

Duration: about two hours (it goes into the dark hours).

It is advisable to bring warm clothes.

Tour devoted to light and darkness, stories of heroism, making oil lamps and walking in the dark with lanterns.

Was there winter time in ancient times? Did children have a bedtime? How were the houses lit up without electricity?

During this family tour, we will hear about the first man and his fear of darkness, find out which tree was the main supplier of electricity, make unique oil lamps, learn about the heroism of the Maccabees and walk with lanterns through starlight and with light in our heart!

Price 40 NIS per person. Children under 3 – free admission.

Trip to the Land of Maccabees – Adult tours

We will discover the heroic story of the Maccabees, who used to live right here in the Modi’in region. We will get to know their homeland and the way of life at that time. Next to restored agricultural facilities and the remains of the village on the hills of Neot Kedumim, we will learn about the agricultural world of the inhabitants of ancient Modi’in and how Greek culture influenced their daily life.

Olive oil has a place of honor on the Israeli dinner table and in the past was used as a source of energy and body refinement. In the middle of the olive vineyards at the peak of the harvest season, we will hear about the olive tree, its properties, its symbolism, its many uses and stories related to it.

We will visit an olive press and see how the oil was extracted in the ancient times.

We will emphasize the place of light in Hebrew culture and will touch upon the symbolism of the golden Menorah in the Temple which became an emblem of the State of Israel. We will finish by lighting an oil candle in honor of Hannuka.

Duration of the tour is approximately 2 hours. It is advisable to bring warm clothes and closed shoes.
